Geotechnical engineering & specialised civil engineering

Forward-looking planning means identifying risks at an early stage, enabling integrated planning and creating added value for the project as a whole.

Every construction project stands or falls on the quality of the ground. Geotechnical engineering lays the foundation for safe, cost-effective and sustainably planned structures. Through thorough ground investigations and geotechnical analyses, risks are identified at an early stage, planning decisions are underpinned and the conditions for the project to run smoothly are established.

Within the DELTA Group, geotechnical engineering complements our services in architecture, construction management and consulting. Together, we develop integrated solutions in which the building site, structure, timetables and costs are coordinated right from the early planning phase.

Geotechnical engineering as the basis for successful projects

No two plots of land are the same. Soil composition, groundwater conditions and geological conditions have a significant influence on foundations, excavation pits and the construction process. An early geotechnical assessment provides planning certainty and enables cost-effective solutions throughout a project’s entire life cycle.

Our services

Our experts support projects from the initial site assessment right through to completion – in collaboration with national and international consultants.

These include, amongst others:

Soil surveys and geotechnical expert reports (in cooperation with DI Klemens Pühringer, civil engineering consultant), foundation consultancy and foundation design, planning of excavation pits and pit shoring, specialised civil engineering, geotechnical calculations, geotechnical support during planning and execution, technical assistance with regulatory procedures, and technical reports and risk analyses

Conclusion by Dipl.-Ing. Alexander Katzkow

“A structure is only ever as good as its foundations. Understanding the ground conditions at an early stage lays the groundwork for sound decisions, cost-effective solutions and a successful project.”

FAQs

When should a geotechnical investigation be carried out?

Ideally, this should be carried out at a very early stage of the project – even before key planning decisions are made. An early site investigation lays the foundations for cost-effective foundation and excavation concepts, reduces risks and helps to avoid unexpected additional costs during construction. At the same time, it provides important information on which to base decisions regarding planning, structural design and tendering.

Why is a building site survey worthwhile?

The ground conditions affect virtually every construction project – from the foundations and the excavation pit right through to the construction process. A geotechnical expert report provides planning certainty, enables reliable cost estimates and helps to identify technical risks at an early stage. Compared with the potential additional costs arising from unplanned ground conditions, the investment in a thorough geotechnical investigation is usually minimal.

What services does DELTA’s geotechnical engineering division offer?

We support projects from the initial site assessment right through to consultancy during construction. This includes, amongst other things:

  • Site and soil surveys
  • Foundation designs
  • Excavation and specialist civil engineering planning
  • Geotechnical reports
  • Geotechnical consultancy services

Depending on the project, we work closely with national and international consultants and seamlessly integrate geotechnical engineering into architecture, construction management and consulting. This enables us to deliver cost-effective and holistic solutions from a single source.
