Life Science & Biotech

In the life science and biotech sector, architecture and design play a critical role in creating advanced research and development environments that are both functional and inspiring. Modern life science architecture goes beyond mere buildings to create integrative environments that push the boundaries of science and technology. The planning and design of these facilities requires a deep understanding of the scientific processes that take place in laboratories and research facilities. Apart from this, DELTA also covers all sectors as a general planner.

Delta Pods Architects, the architectural division within the DELTA Group, has established itself in the planning and design of highly specialised research and development centres. We offer flexible solutions designed to enhance the capabilities and discovery potential of our clients. Our biotechnology clients can rely on our engineering, consultancy and construction expertise to efficiently and cost-effectively manufacture complex biological products.

We specialise in developing responsive and adaptive space concepts that take into account both scientific needs and the growing trends in the life sciences industry. Planning not only includes the physical spaces, but also integrates aspects of sustainability and energy efficiency to create future-proof and environmentally friendly facilities.

We have been working for the pharmaceutical industry for more than four decades and have realised production buildings, research buildings for both basic and applied research as well as laboratory buildings for product development and quality control. We have mastered the planning and supervision of highly complex construction projects of all sizes, such as the biopharmaceutical production plant for active ingredients based on cell cultures (LSCC-Large Scale Cell Culture) realised for Boehringer Ingelheim.

We support EPCM projects from the initial feasibility studies to concept design, basic and detailed design in all phases through to completion.

DELTA has decades of experience in hospital projects – often during ongoing operations. The solutions we create must meet the highest standards, as they are designed to improve the lives and health of patients. Our cross-functional teams have designed hospitals to create spaces that promote patient healing and recovery.

We maintain partnerships with leading organisations and developers. This collaboration leads to challenging projects that support not only the scientific needs but also the business goals of our clients by providing efficient, scalable and technologically advanced solutions.

The life sciences sector remains a dynamic field that requires continuous innovation and adaptation to keep pace with rapidly evolving technological advances. Architects and designers are therefore required to constantly integrate new materials, technologies and spatial concepts to support cutting-edge research and development in this field.

Current projects and co-operations

  • Vienna AKH (General Hospital): hospital pharmacy, intensive care unit, laboratory building
  • Boehringer Ingelheim: Ongoing collaboration for over 40 years
  • Takeda: Ongoing collaboration for several decades
  • Biomay Headquarters Seestadt
  • Hospital sector: Decades of healthcare expertise and project management at the Wels site – passed on & further developed of our other sites, too.
  • Olympus Medical: The planning is prepared by our Vienna office in cooperation with the Czech office in Třebíč.
  • Project management in hospitals (expertise in DELTA “Construction Management”)

We have high technological standards, but all our projects remain focused on people.
