Construction Logistics as the key to sustainable building – A look at Seestadt Aspern
16. October 2025
Since construction began in Seestadt Aspern, Dietmar Schuhmann has been involved in the development of one of Europe’s largest urban development projects as a Construction Logistics specialist—first for INGOB as part of the BL&UM team, and now for DELTA as head of an experienced Construction Logistics team.
His task: to make construction not only possible, but also efficient and sustainable. Overarching Construction Logistics is about identifying synergies beyond individual construction sites, optimizing processes, and using resources in a targeted manner – always in accordance with the requirements of the environmental impact assessment.
After more than ten years, Dietmar Schuhmann draws a clear conclusion:
“Almost everything that makes ecological sense also makes economic sense.”
The successes speak for themselves:
- More than 1.2 million tons of earth were reused and recycled in Seestadt.
- Seven-digit truck kilometers were saved through intelligent earth and trip management.
- On-site concrete mixing plants, rail connections for train deliveries, reuse of demolition materials, and shared waste collection islands make Seestadt a pioneer in resource efficiency and sustainability.
The result is not only a new district in Vienna, but also a model for sustainable building culture—with DELTA at its heart.
