DELTA & DELTA PODS: Their own space as an architectural playground

For our DELTA PODS architects, the creation of the new shared workspace went far beyond the mere planning of a building. It was about creating a quality that makes the office a place for employees to meet, inspire, concentrate, learn, feel good, celebrate, and more.

A place for everyone – and for every kind of work
The office at ViE in Vienna, designed by DELTA and DELTA PODS Architects themselves, stands for creative exchange, modern working, and a space for togetherness. The modern open-plan office on the 6th floor includes a central marketplace and a top-equipped kitchen as well as meeting rooms, quiet zones, and creative spaces. As the lively heart of the office, the marketplace invites joint meetings, presentations, discussions, meals, receptions, and more. Smaller events, cross-team meetings, as well as informal gatherings and lively exchanges, regularly take place here. Two screens provide the opportunity for presentations and both the seating area and the seating stairs, the large dining table and the high chairs with a view of the Danube Canal are an aesthetic eye-catcher and can be used for multifunctional purposes at the same time.

When planning the workstations, the concept of Activity Based Working was at the centre stage. Via the activity profiles (quiet working, mobile working, creative working,…) the modules for this were developed together in the working process with Moocon. Throughout the office, there are several “boxes” that are used for quiet, secluded work as well as for short-term coordination, telephone calls, and video conference meetings. Creative spaces or creative zones provide walls for painting, sketching, and more. Height-adjustable work areas and comfortable padded seating corners complete the workspace options. The open-space office contributes to an open, flexible, and interdisciplinary exchange and optimizes efficiency in project work. Because in today’s world, which demands interdisciplinary solutions, a culture of togetherness is more promising than ever.

A sense of well-being can’t be missed when working
A special highlight of the new office is the kitchen, which is equipped in the best possible way. Here, high-quality fresh meals are prepared daily and the employees are pampered. The refrigerated salad buffet in the dining area offers space for numerous different salads and is used daily. Within the kitchen there is high-quality equipment: with the various food processors and the meat grinder, everything is processed automatically and is a great relief for the cooks.

Since sustainability was an important aspect of every consideration, a lot of work was done with wood (oak) and clay, especially in the marketplace. Linen is also used as a natural and pleasant material for office textiles and furniture. Modern, discreet, and pleasant colour accents, harmoniously coordinated with each other, ensure a sense of well-being and a productive, open working environment, but also a casual atmosphere. The topic of sustainability is also implemented in the separation of waste in the office with its own waste concept. The location near the U3 subway line as well as the bicycle storage room in the office building ensures perfect public accessibility. In the fall of 2021, the office was named a finalist among the top 7 in the “Office of the Year” awards.
