From scan to model to operation: How AI is revolutionizing inventory management

How can you digitally capture a building that was designed analog? Our experts know how artificial intelligence can help make renovating existing buildings more efficient, economical, and sustainable.

Buildings that have grown over decades often present planners with major challenges: plans are no longer accurate, renovations have not been documented, and the condition of the building is difficult to assess. This is exactly where modern scanning methods and artificial intelligence come into play.

In combination with mobile tools such as LiDAR scanning apps and stationary laser scanners, AI not only enables precise inventory taking, but also converts unstructured data into usable information: from room models and component classification to CO₂ accounting.

Using projects such as the AKH Vienna hospital pharmacy and our own DELTA office in Vienna’s Landstraße district, we demonstrate how digital transformation in existing buildings is already working today – with minimal disruption, efficiently, and with real added value for planning, operation, and sustainability.

Digital inventory is not a topic for the future – it is a prerequisite. And DELTA is actively shaping this change.

Marc Guido Höhne, Managing Director of Consulting at the DELTA Group:

“If you want to manage existing buildings efficiently, you first have to understand them, and digitizing the building is the basis for sustainability. Digital models are the foundation for energy simulations, CO₂ balancing, and renovation strategies. They create the conditions for certification and enable precise statements to be made about energy consumption, comfort parameters, and material usage. Sustainability begins with knowledge gained through accurate inventory assessments.”

AI helps ensure that inventory assessment and digitization processes can be carried out sustainably, economically, and efficiently for small and large companies alike.
