The Vltava Philharmonic Hall has entered its next project phase with the completion of an architectural study. The project management and coordination of this significant structure are being carried out by a consortium led by the DELTA Group, in collaboration with partners JE Group and FETTERS Management. This iconic building has the potential to transform the cultural landscape of the metropolis and strengthen the prominence of Prague and the Czech Republic as a center for world music.

Thanks to the innovative design by the architectural studio BIG, the Vltava Philharmonic Hall will be far more than just an architectural landmark. The concept of this multifunctional building creates a vibrant space for art, creativity, and community, deeply connected to the Vltava River – not only in terms of location. In addition to concert halls for classical and popular music, visitors will find a public library, a creative center, as well as cafés and restaurants. Two rooftop restaurants with stunning views of Prague will complement the cultural experience. With top-class facilities for orchestras, artists, and educational programs, this project will fill a long-standing gap in Prague’s cultural infrastructure and open new horizons for artistic creation and public engagement.

Ingo Huber, co-owner and CEO of the DELTA Group and a member of the project team, states:

“We have been working on this project across multiple DELTA Group locations and borders for over one year – DELTA Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Considering the complexity of the project, the combination of regional and international expertise in managing large-scale projects within the DELTA Group ensures optimal collaboration and is key to the project’s success. This type of cooperation defines us as the DELTA Group and is our unique selling point.”

Zbyněk Kovář, Head of Project Management at DELTA Group, adds:

“We are on the right path to creating an institution that will serve all citizens of our country. This unique building will be a source of national pride and will enrich the cultural landscape of the Czech Republic for generations.”

Petr Hlaváček, Deputy Minister for Strategic and Territorial Development, also confirms that the project is progressing well:
“The good news is that we are still on schedule, with construction of the Vltava Philharmonic Hall set to begin in 2027.”

Martin Krupauer, head of the Vltava Philharmonic Hall project team, highlights the extensive work done in the last phase:
“As part of completing the architectural study, the operational, structural, functional, and technical solutions have been thoroughly developed. Space utilization has been optimized, resulting in increased efficiency of the building, even though its volume has grown by 13%.”

The budget based on the current project status (September 2024) is 470 million euros. The project will be financed from multiple sources to ensure its completion within the planned timeframe.

FACTS about the Vltava Philharmonic Hall

National Music Centre. The Vltava Philharmonic Hall is conceived as a national centre of musical culture, especially musical art. The architectural design by the Danish studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) consists of music halls (main, chamber and multifunctional) and a so-called creative hub, which will consist of the music department of the Municipal Library of Prague, recording studios and a reading room for music literature.

The seat of two orchestras. The Vltava Philharmonic Hall will house two orchestras: the Czech Philharmonic and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. The Prague Symphony Orchestra will have adequate premises for their residence and for their educational programs. Rehearsal rooms and a smaller teaching hall will be available not only to music schools of various levels from Prague but also from the Czech regions.

Open 24/7/365. The Vltava Philharmonic is conceived as as open as possible and its ambition is to attract not only classical music lovers, but also residents and visitors to Prague from all over the country and abroad. It offers generous public spaces with park landscaping and seating options, a spacious foyer with a café and two rooftop restaurants with beautiful views of Prague. Visitors will be able to walk along the green terraces to the very top of the building. This concept thus expands the public space of the square and allows the full use of the potential of the location with a view of Prague in all directions.
