Horácká Multifunctional Arena: Under roof and halfway through the investment budget
06. May 2025
The Horácká Multifunctional Arena (HMA) construction project has reached a significant milestone – the building is already under roof, and the project team is successfully coordinating work with the aim of meeting the ambitious completion date of October 2025 and staying within the set budget.
“We are in a unique phase of the project. The arena roof is almost complete, and we are gradually moving towards its completion,” says Josef Prokeš, project manager at DELTA Group CZ, which is responsible for the comprehensive project management of the construction. ”The completed roof structure is already completely self-supporting, which is a fascinating moment from a structural point of view due to its span of 63 meters.
This will be followed by the installation of the technological piping under the roof, the acoustic panels, motors, and suspension systems for the audiovisual technology required for sporting and cultural events. The highlight will be the running track, which will be placed on the roof of this elliptical structure.”
Coordinating such a complex construction project requires precise project management. “From a technical point of view, the construction exceeds the usual standards. An interesting element is the acoustic solution for the central arena, which allows for a transition between sporting and cultural events with minimal adjustments,” adds Prokeš. ”A sophisticated ventilation system will ensure optimal conditions for both sporting competitions and concerts and exhibitions with thousands of visitors.”
At the same time, work is progressing on the building cladding, which involves installing sandwich panels to which the final perforated aluminum facade elements will be attached. “The corner building will be finished in silver, while the main arena building will be painted in its characteristic red color,” says Josef Prokeš, specifying the color scheme for the building.
Jihlava City Council and construction manager David Beke confirm that the project is on track to stay within budget: “Despite additional functionality requirements, we are looking for savings within the project. Almost 39 million euros have already been spent, which represents half of the budget. Our main goal is to complete the construction without exceeding the tender price of 76 million euros.”
Around 130 employees are currently working on the construction site every day, with this number expected to rise to 200 during the most intensive phase of the final work. The completion date has been postponed by just five days to October 2, 2025, solely due to the interruption of work during the floods in September last year.
“Coordinating a project of this size requires precise project management. Our task is to coordinate the GEMO implementation team and separate deliveries (catering facilities, AV technology, interior design, machinery, and equipment) so that all components of the construction progress synchronously and to the highest quality,” concludes Prokeš.
